Salmon Brook Watershed Association to
Unveil Green Lawn Initiative at Annual Meeting
Granby's Salmon Brook Watershed Association will hold their annual meeting at Holcomb Farm Learning Centers in West Granby
Thursday, April 10th at 7:30pm, kicking off a voluntary pesticide-free campaign called Green Lawn Initiative. The Green Lawn Initiative
includes a group of concerned citizens, who have committed to the non-use of pesticides on their lawns which benefits all people and the
safety of the environment
Why focus on lawn-care pesticides? Because they are not essential and there are safe, economic, easy-to-use alternatives. Yet over 72
percent of homeowners use pesticides on their lawns, totally unaware of the deadly consequences. Exposure to pesticides has been linked
to such health problems in adults and children as increased risk of cancers, damage to internal organs, reduced immune systems, increased
odds of birth defects in fetuses, and stunted growth. Local birds, fish, amphibians and other wildlife are also harmed by these toxins. Each
one of us on a personal and responsible level can do our individual part to protect our citizens and environment by committing to the non-use
of pesticides on our lawns.

Jason Rupaka, Vice Chairperson Plainville Conservation Commission and organizer of a pesticide free program in Plainville, will discuss
effective organic land care programs and practices. Come and enjoy friends, refreshments and green ideas.
